Description
The legendary and one of hardest working military firearms in history – the Mosin 3-line was designed by Captain Sergei Ivanovich Mosin of the Imperial Army and entered into service in 1891. It robust and rugged design coupled with its accuracy and reliability have allowed it to be one of the longest serving military rifles ever made.
The rifle is officially known as the 3-line rifle M1891. It design borrows some configurations from Paul Mauser’s Gewehr 98 rifle and a few from the Lee-Enfield with some unique characteristics such as massive horizontal locking lugs, a three pieces bolt body and a uniquely designed safety that pulls the firing-pin assembly away from the trigger sear, and holds it in a depression milled into the bolt body.
The Model 1891 is fed from a milled, single-column, five-round magazine attached to the receiver. It is not detachable but has a floorplate that can be opened via a latch on its bottom. There have been several variations from the original rifle, the most common being this M1891/30 (commonly referred to as the “91/30″ by shooters), which is a modernized design introduced in 1930. As a front line rifle, it has been used for over 70 years in various conflicts around the world and is still used as a dependable hunting rifle in various communities worldwide.
